When a senior needs assistance with non-medical activities such as bathing & grooming, meal preparation & cooking, and transportation & errands, assisted living facilities may be an appropriate fit. Assisted living facilities range from small 6-bed homes to large facilities that can house hundreds of people. They also vary widely in terms of cost. Most facilities start around $5k per month and some can go for >$10k per month.
Our goal as a home care agency is provide care plans that can keep seniors at home for a similar all-in cost to an assisted living facility. If home care is not the best option for you, we can give you recommendations on which facilities to take a closer look at.
Skilled Nursing Facility/Nursing Home
A Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is appropriate for patients who need more than just non-medical, custodial care. SNFs specialize in patients needing nursing supervision. These facilities often do not have as many amenities and activities as an Assisted Living facility, but are more qualified to deal with complex medical diagnoses. If your loved one is still active and does not need constant nursing supervision, in-home care or an Assisted Living facility will be a better option. However, if your loved one is rehabbing from a serious injury, then the Skilled Nursing Facility is going to be the right option for you.
What if I only need some nursing care?
If you are at an Assisted Living facility or at home with a caregiver, and you need a nurse for something like wound care or medication management, we can help you arrange nursing care that will be 100% covered by Medicare. If you think a Skilled Nursing facility is not the best fit but you still need some nursing care, this is going to be your best option. The at home nursing care will consist of a few visits per week as opposed to the 24 hour supervision provided by a SNF. If you are interested in setting up Medicare covered nursing visits, we are happy to tell you how to arrange these services. We can discuss your options at 310-393-1282.
